My experience at the event:
Winter has been long, and waking up on early mornings, surrounded by darkness, to take part in a race wasn't something I looked forward to when it's so cold.
This is why (also because of football season) I took a 2 months break from races. Luckily, winter is slowly approaching its end, and it was time to get back into it.
The usual team (Jill, her dad, and I) decided to run the 10km by Pirates, an old sports club on the West Rand, to get back into running. I've been injured recently (knee problems) so I didn't have much training in my legs. The race was interesting: first 6 km of up and downs (mostly ups), and then a long (long!) downhill from km6 to the finish line.
I felt quite good and I finished in just above the 45 minutes mark (my second best ever!). Once again losing all that weight in autumn helped me achieve better results. It's so much easier to run if you are 10kg lighter!
The medal wasn't bad at al eitherl:
