My experience at the event:
The Randburg Valentine Race, a classic in the area, is not a race where you go to try to beat your best time. It's crowded (especially at the start), it has a long hill in the first, slow km, and it's by night, when visibility is reduced. Yet, it's a fun race. Runners after a long week at work they make an effort to come dressed in stupid, Valentine's-inspired, costumes, and the atmosphere is great.
This year the whole "team" decided to run or walk: me, Lindsey, Kirsten (7 months pregnant!) , Andy, Curtis, Jill, Lindsey's parents, Frank, Debbie and their two daughters. That makes 12 runners. Obviously the competition was between me, Curtis and Andy, who recently discovered the pleasure of running, to get a decent time.
It rained the whole day and a drizzle kept keeping us company for most of the route. To avoid a super slow start, we basically started with the top group, and we soon divided our ways. Curtis set the time for the first 2km, before slowing down, and then I took the lead and I finished in a very good 48 minutes and 20 seconds, my personal best in this competition.
Shame about the medal: there was none! As usual they gave us a sponsored (by kfc) mug. I have 4 of them already! Damn! Give us a medal!

Everyone finished without too much pain, and then we all went to celebrate at the local Nando's.
