My experience at the event:
First duathlon race ever for me. In the incredible heat of Sandton (which I thought was way less hilly!), Curtis and I run the Sprint Event (5 km run, 25km bicycle and 2.5 km run at the end).
The race, organized by Discovery, was definitely a success, but starting the last race at 3 in the afternoon it ended up not being such a great idea, especially in an unforgiving weather.
Curtis and I started together, but soon he dropped back, due to issues with bladder and hernia. I tried to push on the run, and keep a good pace on those hills in my bicycle, and my final time was more than decent: 21:47 in the first run, then 1.03 in the cycle and 10:02 in the last section of the run. I was hoping for a quicker cycling time, but since I'm still carrying too much weight, it was not bad.
