My experience at the event:

With Comrades looming at the horizon, and a good enough (but not great) qualifying time, it was time to take part in the last qualifier to see if any progress has been made in the past month or so since I started running again following my foot fracture.

The Wally Hayward used to have quite a quick course, and even with some changes to the course this year the general feel I had after running the 2-lap 21km was that if was still one of the flattest marathons around. No crazy hills, and long rolling short hills.

SInce I had no need to run too hard (I was supposed to play a football game 24 hours later), I decided to push the first lap and then take it easy, once I got tired (with 10km to go) in the second. I probably took it way too easy in the second, and didn't even realize that I was close to the 4 hours mark so I walked a little too much in the last 5kms...

Overall it was a good chance to run in order to start the last month of training before Comrades.
