My experience at the event:

Driving almost 6 hours to Howick and back with 2 little kids in order to take part in a 54 minutes swimming race seemed madness. It was. But I wanted to take part into the historical 50th edition and finish my 5th race.

Overall the swim was straigher than other times (due to the gate system, a little gate every 400 meters, much easier to go straight there rather than try to swim in a vague direction), and the time was similar. I thought I was going faster than in previous occasions, but as usual I swam pretty much the same speed I've been swimming for the past 5 years: steady and slow.

I finished in 54 minutes and Shari, Lindsey's friend who was racing just earlier in the girls race, finished as well, so we all got our medal, which was all that we could hope for. Seeing some olympic swimmers doing the distance in 20 minutes or so was quite amazing.
